Please refer to the following most commonly asked questions when it comes to dove hunting






1. Do we need landowner's permission to hunt on their property?
Yes. If it is posted at the property, you need to get permission. It is always a great practice to do so. Make sure to stay out of their fields either way, to avoid contamination.


2. What license is required to do dove hunt?
Either the resident or non-resident hunt and fish license. You will also need the day license for the days you are hunting on, along with a migratory bird stamp. For more information on license click here or go to the "Arizona License information" under "Hunting Regulations" tab.

3. What is the maximum magazine capacity that I can have?
No more than 3 shells (two in the magazine and one in the chamber).


4. What is the license requirements for kids between the age 10-17?

Arizona residents and non-residents ages 10 to 17 must purchase a Youth Combination Hunting and Fishing License. In such cases, no migratory bird stamp is needed. For more information on license click here or go to the "Arizona License information" under "Hunting Regulations" tab.


5. Can anyone under 10 hunt?




A person under 10 may hunt wildlife other than big game without a license when accompanied by a properly licensed person 18 years or older. No more than two unlicensed children may accompany any license holder.


6. Can we hunt tribal land with the AZ license?
No. You will need to get a tribal license.


7. How do I get a tribal license?

8. What are the type of doves that can be hunted in Arizona?

The dove species that can be hunted in Arizona are Mourning dove, White-winged dove and Eurasian Collared dove. Protected birds which may not be hunted include the Inca Dove and Ground Dove.


9. What is the bag limit for each dove?

During the early season (September 1-15) the bag limit will be 15 mourning and white-winged doves per day in the aggregate of which no more than 10 may be white-winged doves. The possession limit for the early dove season will be 45 mourning and white-winged doves in the aggregate of which no more than 30 may be white-winged doves. During the late season the bag and possession limits are 15 and 45 mourning doves respectively. Eurasian collared dove have no bag limit.

10. Can I take my limit in AZ and another in CA the same day?
No. you may only take one daily bag limit.


11. Why do I need to leave a feathered wing on, for transport?
To prove the species you hunted, and in order to keep the bag limits in check, it is important to leave a feathered wing on the dove during transport.

12. Can I transport someone's dove?
Yes, but the birds need to be properly labelled with the hunter's information for verification.


13. Can we have a group limit?

No, the bag limit is per person.
